I have it on my heart to do this , for the sake of those who doubt for this reason. Who think that God does not speak to His Children and show them things to come , acording to the MISUNDERSTANDING of 1st corinthians 13.
First thing to be said about this chapter , is that it speaks about the Importance of Charity ( the works of Love ) . NOT the speaking against Spiritual Gifts , as some think. The point of this chapter is to show , that all these spiritual gifts dont compare by a long shot the importance it is to have Charity. So that with all , we all may see that its all about Love , and ALWAYS will be. 1 Corinthians 13 (King James Version) King James Version (KJV) Public Domain 1 Corinthians 13 1Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. 4Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. speaking of how love is Greater than ANYTHING. and goes on in the next verse to show why. 8Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. Is paul saying that they have already ceased? NO! what paul is saying is One day they WILL , what day will they? Lets continue to read. 9For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. what is that which is Perfect? Even the New Begginning , which by the way , is as far as Prophecy Goes , it goes no Further , we are not given prophecy any further than the New Begginning , showing us that , on that day all prophecy will be fullfilled. Thus done away with. For it had all been fullfilled, that which we now only see in Part. 11When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. Is paul saying that the gifts of the Spirit are childish? NO!!!! hes giveing you a comparrion of what its going to be like when we see God face to Face on that Perfect day. When you were a kid , do you remember what it was like? You had no knowlege , neither could you comprehend the things you know today ,it had never entered your mind! When you grew up , your childish thoughts were done away with. In LIKE MANNER , so will all the things we do now be done away with on that perfect day , in which we cannot comprehend , neither has it entered our mind what the Lord has Prepared for us. For now we only know in part , we see darkly whats to come , as God says , although He tells us , until we experience it , we will never understand. But on that day all things will be made clear , and all knowlege , or i should say , lack of understanding , that we have now will no longer be remembered. 13And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. Indeed , charity is the Greatest. How can it be confirmed that paul was NOT against Prophecy and the Gifts of the Spirit? Well just read the next chapter 1 Corinthians 14 1Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. so now i posted this for the sake of those who mis use this chapter . When i first read this chapter i didnt know what it meant , i couldnt see. So i kept reading and reading it , every time asking God to give me understanding . I must have read it at least 5 times before i went on to the next chapter , then came back to 13 . Then God began to open my eyes to see what i have now explained. My faith is sure in this , however jack if you will come and confirm this , or else if the Father has put it on your heart to correct me then do so. For you know i am not ashamed of Correction , but do consider it before the Lord. For some say God doesnt speak to people anymore , and that all He wanted to say is said , and that the Bible is Complete. And that man should not add to it or take away. Claiming that this chapter says so. I say its True that man should not add to or take away From Gods Word. Yet there is no scripture saying God cannot add to His Word is there? Also clearly everthing that was prophecied was done so in part. Not Fully. Showing that God can also give more in detail of what He has already said to the Prophets of Old. So in conclusion , prophecy has not ceased , niether tounges , or any spiritual gift , For God is the Same yesterday , today , and Forever more. But on that day that we stand before the Father , then all things will have been made new , and all former things passed away. What a blessed Hope. |

Hi st_joel,
That is good teaching. You have the understanding which the Holy Spirit gave you, how can it not be right? Of course what you are teaching here is right, That is exactly what it does say in the bible. Paul has repeatedly told the people to seek after prophecy for that is the best gift. And the Lord has always had His Prophets, and will Always have His Prophets. The office of the Prophet is sorely mis-understood. Most think of the Prophet as only for telling the future events. but that is not true. While there are times when a Prophet will do this, we really do need to go back into the bible to see what the function of the Prophet is. Jer. 1:5 The Prophet is Ordained by God Jer. 1:7 The prophet speaks what God says. Deut. 1:5 Teaches the Law of God Deut. 5:6 Teaches God's Word that was given to Him by God. Jonah 3:1 Gives warnings Jer. 1:10 Has been made Ruler over nation, and will again be made Rulers. Judg. 4 Commands armies and rules country We see that the Prophet speaks for God, And the bible says that God does Nothing without first telling His Prophets. Amos 3:7 "Surely the Lore God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants, the Prophets." And 1Thess. 5:20 "Despise not Prophesying" |
