I was led to start this post...I'm not sure why I think to maybe bring recognition to others about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Things like discernment, and prophecy and preaching. Not everyone receives all gifts, but the Lord allows us all to have certain gifts in our life to lead us down the right path. God knows everything of every minute that's going to happen but we all still have free will. There will be certain people in and out of our lives or even people just passing us, and we will either choose to help them or not to, sometimes without realizing it, and I think this is how many gifts come about. We all are brought into a life so to say...when we're born we're in our current surroundings and there isn't much we have to do about it at that time. Our lifestyles also have to do with certain gifts, some people have lots of money and some don't. So they may be able to travel to get the word out, whereas others may be given the gift of tongues and be a prayer warrior where they can pray for people all over the world and not have to leave their own surroundings. We may not recognize these things though at first, like the gift of Discernment. At first you just think you're figuring out this on your own, but as things develop more with it, you'll instantly understand that the Holy Spirit is guiding you. But with all of these gifts, we have to be very meek and humble, because the second that we don't heed God's voice, the gift will be taken away, and we'll have to prove our faith again through many works before we get it back. I was searching for the verses about the gifts, and instead came upon Chapter 4 of Hebrews:

1] Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
[2] For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
[3] For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
[4] For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
[5] And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
[6] Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
[7] Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
[8] For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
[9] There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
[10] For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
[11] Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
[12] For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
[13] Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
[14] Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
[15] For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
[16] Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

If others feel led, please share the gifts you know of that the Lord has given you and maybe how they came about so others will open their eyes to see how God does work in every single person on this Earth, and will put use to these gifts just as Ray has devoted his life to the Lord and has received the gift of prophecy, which was exactly what God had intended for him to do, which I thank the Lord that Ray did choose to live his life the way he does because look how much one little man has brought about just by following the Lord's command with his whole spirit. There is a new person registering to this site almost everyday I check it. We all have our place in doing the Lord's work, and every person's will be a little bit different. Yours in Christ, Stephanie.

I really can't tell if i have a gift or not. I honestly don't think i've been given a gift yet, because I'm not even sure I have the Holy Spirit in me...but oh do I want it!!!

This'll be an interesting thread.

Found it Chapter 12 of 1 Corinthians is the chapter concerning gifts of the Holy Spirit.
1Cor.12
[1] Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
[2] Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.
[3] Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
[4] Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
[5] And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
[6] And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
[7] But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
[8] For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
[9] To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
[10] To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
[11] But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
[12] For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
[13] For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
[14] For the body is not one member, but many.
[15] If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
[16] And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
[17] If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
[18] But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
[19] And if they were all one member, where were the body?
[20] But now are they many members, yet but one body.
[21] And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
[22] Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
[23] And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.
[24] For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:
[25] That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.
[26] And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
[27] Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
[28] And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
[29] Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
[30] Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
[31] But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

Chapter 13 also deals with how we should use these gifts.
