BAPTISM AND TOUNGES?

I was Baptised in water at my Local Pentecostal church, but i did not receieve the GIFT OF TOUNGES - i was angry. Because i was told i would receive the Holy Spirit after i was baptised and receive power. All though not my power.

I was always told that THE GIFT OF TOUNGES was a CONFIRMATION OF THE FAITH. OR A SIGN TO THE UNBELIEVER.

I was ALSO wondering HOW CAN ANYONE PRAY IN THE SPIRIT WITHOUT THE GIFT OF TOUNGES OR PROPHESY?

How can You FIRE arrows if you do not speak in tounges? How can you target the Dark Spirits if you cannot even speak in TOUNGES OF ANGELS?

PLEASE HELP ME, I AM A BELIEVER IN EVERYTHING ABOUT GOD=OTHER WISE I WOULD NOT HAVE ENTERED PROPHECY.ORG.

THE BIBLE TELLS ME THAT AFTER BAPTISM YOU GET THE POWER FROM GOD TO PERFORM HIS WORD-GODS WORK THROUGH PEOPLE-MAYBE GOD SEES A PROBLEM IN MY LIFE........i am a little confused about tounges i guess.

I was raised Pentecostal, and I also was told that speaking in toughs was very important. It gives you the impression at least with Pentecostals is that if you don’t speak in tongues you aren’t really born again. Pentecostal is a religion based on the gifts of the spirit a little more so then other religions. And really they put a lot of pressure on people to speak in tongues maybe not meaning to do this. Therefore what you have sometimes are people speaking in tongues that are making a show of it and not really do it at all.

There are many gifts of the Spirit; there really isn’t anything in the bible that states the only manifestation of the Spirit is tongues or that everyone will receive that gift. Some will, some won’t, some will have other gifts, and not everyone will have all of them. Some people who have the gift of tongues have it but only pray in tongues in private where others, it will come upon them in public and then there must be someone there who recieces the interpretation and speaks the interpretation out loud to the church.

I have heard people say that you need to get to a point in your prayer life that you can totally let go and then it will come, that maybe you are not doing it cuz you are subconsciously holding yourself back. You can be saved and totally born again without ever speaking in tongues. And if you do receive that gift you may not ever pray that way in public. Try to relax if you want that gift for the right reasons and not to prove to the people that you are saved you may get it. Pray about it but know that for each person the gifts are different and that for each person the gift of tongues is also different. I believe in and love the Lord, I have been baptized twice, fully immersed in water both times and I don’t yet have the gift of tongues.

CUTTING A BIG STORY SHORT

Yes, Many a times I have seen people speaking in tounges at the Elim pentecostal Church in England. I think it is good to speak in tounges, but it is even better to have a Tranlator. Usually someone standsup and speaks in a tounge but no one interprets what they are saying. No one has a clue whats going on, we all just follow the ways of the church.

The bible says that people who prophesy should prophesy as a group all prophesying... but this never happens, its usally one at a time and that is not right for starters.

I was also dissapointed that the Elim Pentecostal church wanted to get tickets to watch Benny Hinn on stage in Norich, when i found out that he was a false prophet-not to mention what the Prophecies on Rays site mentions about him. I wanted to stand up and say something but i know the whole church will say something like you are crazy.

There are not many that want to do the Whole will of God-maybe one or two but stil that is not many. I am sorry i went of the subject, just letting you know how hard it is for me wit my strugges-not that i wish to burden you but just to get all this off my chest, ya know?

Anyways about Tounges, Did not jesus that he would love a person to speak in tounges or prophesy - Jesus said to desire the greater gifts. Well i tell you one thing AT LEAST WE DESIRE TO SPEAK IN TOUNGES THOUGH WE CANT YET. IT MUST BE DUE TO TIME LAG:roll:

i dont believe ive seen you here before. Welcome. Im sure this site will be a blessing to you as it was me.

Let me share something with you.

About 5 years ago the Lord cast demons out of me. Ive sought Him in my room. I didnt go to church , but i watched tbn , and read the bible and Prayed for Wisdom and Understanding. I would also go into the chat rooms , and thats where i learned of the differnt denominations , for they fight about everything in there.

Conserning babtizm. I havent physicly been babtized with water. As i was in a chat room , a man was preaching that only through babtizm with water can you be forgiven. And i knew that to be false , however i didnt lean to my own understanding. As i went offline , i asked the Lord ,

Lord if i were to die right now , would i go to hell for not being babtized with water?

A few moments went by , and a Very Clear voice spoke.

"You were babtized with water , when you read my Word and Believed it".

I asked the Voice if Jesus Christ came in the Flesh , and He said Yes.

Ive seen alot from the Spirit of God , ive talked with God face to face countless times. Ive seen things in dreams , and watched them come to pass before my eyes , Ive seen visions and watched them come to pass before my eyes.

All of this , and i dont speak in tonges , i dont think ive been babtized with the Holy Spirit as of yet. I dont have any gift that im aware of.

You spoke of people prophecying one at a time , Paul says that , thats the way to do it. One at a time , there must be order. We stand together , but one speaks at a time.

Tonges is good i see , for praying. Thats about all i see its good for. Especialy in these days , when men dont care if you speak in tonges or not , there still going to think that God is a Hoax.

Prophecy is Where its at , conserning the Edifying of the Body of Christ . Healing and Casting out Devils is where its at if your evangelizing , and going out in the streets. Faith we all need. the Doing of Miracles will be a prize gift in days to come , multiplying food will indeed proove usefull.

your seeking tonges? its the least of all the gifts. What your seeking i think , is not the tonges , but the sign that You are Babtized with the Spirit , and you seek the Power Right? Thats that way it is for me anyhow.

Baptism and Tongues

Oh there is so very much confusion about the difference between the Baptism in Water and the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.

There is also a great confusion about the Gifts of the Spirit when it comes to the Gift of tongues and the interpretation of Tongues.

My heart breaks when I see and hear such confusion, such mis-information about them that is passed off as the Truth of God's Word. Those who pass off all this false information do not have the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, don't know how to get it, and so usually tell you why you don't have it, and why you can't get it. Some even claim that it is of Satan. And others claim that it ended with the Apostles.

You do not have to have the Baptism in the Holy Spirit in order to have Salvation, And you do not have to have the Baptism in Water in order to have Salvation, for the Word makes it clear that Salvation is by Faith. Heb. 11 tells us what faith is. Salvation is through Faith only. 2Tim 3:15; Rom 3:28, 30

We submit to water Baptism, not for salvation, for one can be dipped in water every hour of their life and not receive salvation from it. We submit to water Baptism because the Lord God Jesus Christ said that we should be Baptized and he himself was baptized as an example. So water Baptism is a mark of Obedience to Jesus.

Upon accepting Jesus Christ in our heart, repenting and declaring Jesus to be our Lord, Master, and God, we receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. But this infilling is Not the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is the Gift and Promise of the Father Acts 1:4, and is given for Power, the power to witness of Jesus Christ LK 24:49; Acts 1:8. The speaking in tongues is only the sign of having received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. I know that there are many who claim different, who claim that they have the Baptism in the Holy Spirit even though they do not speak in tongues. But consider this. The Apostles has the infilling of the Holy Ghost before they ever went to the upper room where they then received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. Jesus Himself shows the difference in Acts 1:4-5, for Jesus had already given the Apostles the Holy Spirit in JN 20:22 and then told them to wait for the Baptism in the Holy Spirit which was the Gift of the Father. This showed that the Baptism in the Holy Spirit was different, and above the simple infilling of the Holy Spirit we receive upon receiving salvation. Jesus thought that the Baptism in the Holy Spirit was so very important that he commanded all the disciples to not leave without it. Jesus was insisting that they must have it. So how important do you think it is?? Can you get to heaven without it? Yes you can.

The Baptism in the Holy spirit is NOT for speaking in tongues, it is For Power to witness. The speaking in tongues is only a sign that they have received the Power. That speaking in tongues is not the same as the gift by the Holy Spirit of giving a message in tongues. That this sign follows the receiving of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is show to be true in Acts 8:14-19 where Simon saw that when the Apostles laid hands on the men, and that they received the baptism in the Holy Spirit, that Simon saw something happen to these men. Simon saw a sign that these men actually did receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, and he wanted the power to also pass on this sign that he saw. That sign could only have been the men start speaking in tongues.

The receiving the Baptism in the Holy spirit does not automatically go right along with the receiving of salvation. Note the Apostles receiving the Holy Spirit but still had to wait for the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and in Acts 8:14-17 where men receive the Baptism later with the laying on of hands.


Yes I do know of churches which call themselves Pentecostal, or Charismatic. And many of them are Not Pentecostal in any of their actions or doctrines.

There is a great difference between the sign of Tongues one receives when they receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, and the Gift of Tongues which the Holy Spirit gives.

While they are similar in nature they are totally different in purpose. When I speak in tongues, which I do daily, it is speaking between my spirit and the Holy Lord, This is private, and may happen any place at any time. Yes there are many who pray in tongues in or out of church. This is not messages which are to be interpreted. One does NOT stand up and speak in tongues in church when one is only praying in tongues. I have been present in a Church meeting of over a thousand persons all praying out loud, more than half were praying in tongues, but when a message in tongues started by one man, instantly everyone in the room stopped speaking, this showed me that the Lord will let you know when He, the Lord is starting to speak a message to the attending body of people, which is what a message in tongues is.

There is a warning in the bible that if there is no one there to interpret such a message that either you must Not give the message or else you must pray the Lord God to also give the interpretation through you. Therefore it is a usual occurrence in a church for people to stand up, and loudly speak in tongues, but no one interprets, then that is a sign that there is something bad wrong there. For the Lord God does not do that!! While it is true that on rare occasion, that the Lord may have a person give a message in tongues, that the one who is given the interpretation is disobedient to the Lord and does not give the interpretation. But this is very rare. And If you see this happening in a church repeatedly, as indicated by Squelchie, then those speaking in tongues as if they were giving a message are not speaking from the Lord God, but rather are speaking from Satan.

Oh yes, Satan is a copy cat, and loves to copy whatever God does, and so Satan also has tongues. So how can you tell the difference. If you are of the Lord you will know instantly. The message from the Lord will always glorify God. one way or another, and there will be no doubt about it when you hear the interpretation.

Squelchie, I would personally suggest that you look for another church, for by your description of what they teach and what they allow in their church services, they are not of the Lord God.

Now about your knowledge about Benny Hinn, when your church wanted to go to one of his services, you should have spoken up and told the congregation of what you knew of him. By not warning them, they walked into a trap of Satan. And we do not know how they were affected. Even if they made fun of you, mocked you, spit on you, and threw you out of their congregation, you should have spoken out. Are we to care what men and women think of us, or are we to care what Jesus thinks of us??

Squelchie, is you desire to have the Baptism in the Holy Ghost, then seek after the Power of God, Seek after the Power to Witness, and forget about the speaking in tongues. For that is only a sign that you have received the gift of the Power.

I sought after the speaking in tongues for a very long time, and I never got it. But when I started seeking after the baptism, seeking after the Power to Witness, then I received the Power. The first time that I spoke in tongues, I was kneeling next to my bed praying and all of a sudden I heard sounds coming out of me that I didn't make and felt my tongue going places in my mouth that it had never gone before as I mouthed the words. And all I could think of at that moment was "Thank you Lord for Accepting me as a Believer!!" Mark 16:17-18 "And these signs will follow those who believe:--- they shall speak with new tongues".

but sometimes, probably rarely, some receive the gift of prophecy and it is first sign of reception of baptism, right?
The reason I say this, is because Thomas S. Gibson told me that he received tongues only 10 years after gift of prophecy. So, I'm confused!

To understand, one must go back to the Old Testament. When we examine the list of all the gifts of the Holy Spirit, (1Cor. 12:8-10) we find that all except two of the Gifts were given in the Old Testament. We see in the Old Testament that the Word of Wisdom was given, The word of knowledge was given, the gift of Faith was given, the gift of healing was given, the gift of the working of Miracles was given, the gift of prophecy was given, the gift of Discerning of Spirits was given, by the Holy Spirit. All of these were given by the Holy Spirit as the Holy Spirit came on the person and when the Holy Spirit left the person the gift was gone. Sampson is an example of receiving and using the gift of the working of Miracles, as his strength increased only when the Holy Spirit came upon him, else he was only as any other man.

The only two gifts which was never given in the Old Testament was the gift of various kinds of tongues, and the gift of the interpretation of tongues. 1Cor 12:10

There was never an example of anyone in the Old Testament ever speaking in unknown tongues, or of anyone interpreting such speaking.

That only came in the New Testament after the Disciples received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. And that has been with us ever since, for the Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit will never leave us.

But you should know that if you do not have the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, you may receive and exercise any of the other gifts of the Holy Spirit, but you will never be able to accept, and exercise, the Gift of speaking in various kinds of tongues. You can have all the rest of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, but you cannot have those last two gifts of the Holy Spirit unless you also have the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, for when speaking in other tongues, or interpretation of other tongues, it is not you who is speaking, it is the Holy Spirit who is doing the speaking, both in tongues, and in giving the interpretation. The one who gives a message in tongues does not know what is being said, and the one giving the interpretation does not know what was said in tongues, but rather it is the Holy Spirit again who now gives the message by the second person in a language that you understand. The person who is giving the interpretation only opens their mouth and hears the message as the sounds come out of their mouth.

It is not like you, for example, speak a message to some one in Swahili and they understand and then translates into English. No it does not happen that way. Neither the one giving the message in tongues, or the one who gives the interpretation of tongues knows what is said until they hear it spoken in their own language.

So you see, prophecy has been around for a long time, so prophecy cannot be a sign of having received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.

As for it being 10 years after Thomas' giving of prophecies that he began to speak in tongues. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit can come at any time, or may never come. Strange as it may seem, the Lord will NOT force the Baptism of the Holy Spirit upon anyone. So there are some who the Lord God tries to give the Baptism to, who refuse to accept it.

I use to pray for an old lady in out church to receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, Prayed for her every day and laid hands on her at every service for over a month. I did so until the Lord said to me, "Jack, stop praying for her to receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, for she refuses to accept it." That lady would keep her mouth closed just as tight as if it were glued together. For the Holy Spirit to speak through you, you Must open your mouth. You Must submit your will to the Will of the Holy Spirit.

There was once after I received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit that I was led of the Lord to gather every verse about it into a letter, and then to send it to my sister. About two years later I was on my knees praying about 3 am when the Lord said to me, "pick up the phone right now and call your sister. Tell her that I am trying to give her the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and I want her to accept it." So I called her up and boy was she upset because I woke her up in the middle of the night to tell her that. Well it turned out that she had never read all those verses about the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. And all she would say was "Well, If God wants me to have it, then God will give it to me." She never did accept that God was trying to give it to her and that she had to meet Him half way and to accept it. She does not have the Baptism today and the Lord says that now she will never have it for the Lord God will not offer it to her again. And the Lord said that my sister, although she is His, and does serve Him, that in the times to come that she will suffer terribly because she does not have the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. She does not listen to the Holy Spirit, so she will not run when the Holy Spirit says run for your life.

Does this mean that the same might happen to you if you do not have the Baptism in the Holy Spirit? No I am not saying that. For even without having the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, you may be listening to the Holy Spirit when He speaks to you, and if so, then you will be listening, and if the Spirit says for you to run, then you will obey and run. But you see, there are many Christians who serve the Lord but who will not listen directly to the Lord speaking at them. That is why the Lord has always had to use Prophets and messengers. Those who will not listen directly the Lord has to send some one to them.

I myself went a long time actively seeking the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.

Yet others receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit without ever seeking it. I received a letter from a lady who needed information about it. She told how one night when she was kneeling next to her bed praying that all of a sudden she was speaking, or praying in tongues, and she said that I scared her half to death. She said that she didn't know what to make of it, but she did continue night after night. She explained that the church that she went to taught that the speaking in tongues was of Satan, and that if the people in her church found out that she was speaking in Tongues that they would throw her out of the church.

There is only ONE Sigh of having received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, and that is the speaking in tongues.

One may speak in tongues once, and then not again, this still shows that they received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and the Power to Witness. There are many who pray in tongues in private, and never in public.

we each have different gifts of the spirit which god knows suits us best ,and for a human to tell someone that they would get this if they do this or that is wrong for only god reads are hearts and truly knows us not people ,just because your baptized with water dosen't make you instantly holy and keep you from sin ,for i was baptized with water and i still sin even thou i try not to ,when i first started to believe in christ the way were supposed to believe, god gave me the ability to discern ,people i didn't even know would walk by me and god would tell me what that person needed a prayer for and i would instantly pray for that person ,then my aunt was dying and the lord asked me to tell her something and i didn't for i thought she would think i was crazy ,then she died and i lost my ability to discern ,it took many years of asking god to give it back to me before he did ,i personally don't get mad if someone has different gifts of the spirit than me ,for god knows how he can use me best more than i know ,so i will pray for your ability to discern so man won't let you down with there promises

We are under Christ now and we have to keep all his commands even if baptism is a command as you say is it not true God prefers obedience. But i still would like tounges.

Ask to be baptised by the Holy Spirit.

I want to tell you boldly, according to the New Testament, that Jesus wants to baptize everybody on earth with the Holy Ghost. He wants everybody on earth to speak in other tongues. That’s exactly what the New Testament says -- boldly. I mean it says it boldly. Not just in one place, several places

Paul said in the first letter to the Corinthians, the 14th chapter, at the end of the 39th verse, “. . . forbid not to speak with tongues.”

Unless you allow Jesus to baptize you in the Holy Ghost, you won’t ever receive power from on High to do the works of God with.

You’ll receive enough power to come to church, sometimes. Not usually on Wednesday. Sunday morning? yeah. Sunday night? hardly ever, sometimes. Prayer meeting at 6:00 in the morning? never. Praying for a patient on his death bed? never, no, no. You won’t believe it. Your prayers won’t get him healed because you won’t believe it.

You’ll believe the circumstances unless you have received the baptism of the Holy Ghost and prayed in other tongues and have your spirit filled up.

Paul said you pray in tongues to edify yourself. “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself . . .“ (I Corinthians 14:4). He said you pray in tongues to edify yourself. Edifying means building yourself up to the point that you can believe God instead of the circumstances.

Circumstances don’t have anything to do with God. God removes circumstances. I mean all the time, if you’ll just believe.

The way you believe is the way you talk. What you’re believing comes out of your innermost being. The words that come out of your mouth come out of your belly (your heart) ~ from your inner man. And the kind of words that you speak out of your mouth shows exactly the condition or shape that your inner man is in; because, you are what you say.

You are your conversation. You are your talk and you won’t ever be anything else. The shape you’re in now, I’ll guarantee you 100%, and the condition of your own personal life are what your mouth said yesterday. And when I say yesterday, I mean your past life, your past meditation, your past attitude toward God and toward the Bible.

There is complete victory for every one of you that will read the Bible and believe that those words came out of the mouth of God for you. But if you fight it and wrestle with it because you haven’t been taught it in the past, then you’ll miss out on what God wants.

Oh, Jesus still loves you even if you don’t ever speak in tongues. And you can go to heaven and never speak in tongues. All you have to do to go to heaven is to be born again by the Spirit of God, and when you die, the angels will be standing there to get your spirit and you’ll go right through the air to heaven.

THEN WHAT’S THE BENEFIT?
You may be saying, “Now what good is speaking in tongues? I have never been taught about that stuff in my past. They don’t teach that where I go to church. Why should I be speaking in some language I don’t know.

What good is that? I don’t even understand what I’m saying.”
Let me ask you a question: “Are you praying to yourself?”
You might say, “No, I’m not praying to myself. I’m praying to God.”
That’s right. The Bible says at the beginning of the 14th chapter of First Corinthians that “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God . . .“ (verse 2). Isn’t that plain? How plain can you get? He speaks directly to God, bypassing all human reasoning’s.

But when you come up against something you’ve never seen before, you don’t know what to do. Speaking in tongues, what good is that?

POWER TO BELIEVE
It gives you power to believe the Bible. Unless you have faith, you can’t even believe what the Bible says, And you won’t DO what the Bible says unless you have faith.

Jesus said the first commission that I’m giving you if you believe the gospel and you stand before the world and say, "I’m a believer of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ,” is in my name I want you to cast out devils. Not the second commission. Put first things first.

God let me know one time that a lot of people don't get their prayers answered because they don’t bow down before Him and worship Him as God. They jump over that first commandment that God gave to Moses on top of the mountain for the human race to live by.

They jump over it, get hung up in religion and they don’t bow down alone before Him in the closet anymore. They get busy in church and do this and do everything for the church, but they don’t take that time to bow down before Him by themselves and spend time worshipping Him.

God wants to be your God and He wants you to be His child. He wants you to love Him like a Father and He wants to love you just like a child.

But do you, know how He wants to love you? He wants to love you through the chapters and verses of the Bible. He’s not going to love you through your head. He’s not going to give it to you because you want it, the moment you want it. He wants to love you through His Word.

Now, you either let God love you through the Bible and get the things that are in the Bible and let it teach you, or you won’t get them.

Oh how beautiful it is when you come to the point, “God, I’m convinced that I don’t know anything. I’m just going to read the New Testament and everything I read I’m going to believe. When something happens in my life, I'm going to dig in the New Testament until I find the answer of what You said about it; and whatever You said about, that’s exactly what I'm going to believe. And I’m going to act like it’s true regardless of what I feel.”

When I said that, my whole life changed. God changed me into another man.
YOU’LL BEAR FRUIT
God wants you to know who you are in Him. He wants you to know that you’ve inherited everything that’s in the New Testament. He doesn’t have any favorites. He loves you as much as He loves anybody on the earth. Everything that He’s got in the Bible is for you. When you find that out and stop listening to human beings, but stand on the Word just because it’s written that way, you’ll find out that you’ll become a tree that will bear fruit. You talk about bearing fruit, now you’ll BEAR fruit.

A lot of people that are Christians have never won a soul in their life. They could win souls every week if they would just do that. If they just knew, they could win souls every week. It’s so easy.

If you’re interested in somebody that’s not saved, if you just simply say, “Would you like to know Jesus? There’s no reason for dying without knowing Him. You never can tell, you might end up in a car wreck on the way home. If you don’t know Him, you might as well know Him right now. I’ll tell you what you do, just go ahead and close your eyes right now.”

You’d be surprised the people that have done that. They’ll close their eyes when you tell them that.
But you see, you have to control the conversation and without power you can’t do that. Don’t tell me you can, I’ve been there; I know you can’t. But when you receive power from on High it’s just as easy to do that as it is to take a drink of water -- just like you’ve always done it.

Now, it won’t be real easy when you first start because you haven’t been used to it. After you do it a few times, and you pray in the spirit and get yourself built up, and with God in there, doing the things of God is just normal to you.

You say “When somebody comes to you all messed up (It doesn’t ever shake me up; I don’t let things shake me up) what do you do?”

I just take authority over it. They’re all messed up. Their thinking is disturbed and their mind is all confused and they don’t know what they’re doing. I just say, “In Jesus’ name, come out.”

You say, “Well, what happens when you do that?”
The power of God hits them, usually. The Holy Ghost begins to work with them. But you have to take authority over that darkness that’s trying to wreck them. God’s power Is real. God’s power is wonderful; but you have to take authority over the devil.

God’s Word is so powerful people, so powerful. It’s powerful like a two-edge sword. I don’t care if you’ve got relatives that are mean or whatever, God’s Word is sharper than a two-edged sword. And you just stand on that Word for their salvation and break the power of the devil in Jesus’ name, and bind that power of darkness and tell that devil and those foul spirits that have that person possessed, “No, you are not taking that person to hell because I am not going to let you do it. I break your power in Jesus’ name. I bind you up.”

As you stand steadfast in faith, you’ll see God’s power deal with that person. And when God’s power visits that person, it’s all over my friend. Glory be to God!

It is just like when Jesus got out of the ship, the man that was nude, that was cutting himself with stones, got scared when Jesus came. (See Mark 5:1-20.)

“What are you doing here? What are you doing here? What are you going to. do? Don’t make us leave. Don’t make us leave this body.” No, they wanted to make that man a spectacle in front of the whole city. They wanted him to shout and kill and cut himself with stones, with no clothes on.

But when Jesus said, “Go,” they left. That’s right. They left. And he put his clothes on.
"Where we going, Jesus?"
And Jesus said, "You go to the town, to the priest, and give your testimony."
The testimony, that's what is so great!
If you’re standing in faith on Scripture sometime, when God does something for you, you won’t even feel it. You’re just likely to be walking around and you’ll just know that you don’t have it anymore. That’s right.

If I can talk you into trusting God, there’s nothing that God won't give you. I mean nothing. Anything that you need, or want or even desire, the Lord will give it to you. He will literally give it to you. Oh, He’s so good to you.

He wants to be a lot better to you than what He is, so don’t cut Him off. Don’t cut His blessings off from your life by fighting the Word. Just be calm about it, read it to yourself. You don’t have to take a bunch of people’s word for it. You’ve got sense enough to read. You know, you didn’t go to school just to eat your lunch, did you? You know how to read.

Theologians look at me real funny when I ask them if they can read. Well, sometimes you have to ask them that. They start fighting the Bible, fighting God and everything else. If I’m carrying on a conversation with them, I’m not going to agree with them. I’m not going to argue with them. You don’t have to argue. Just quote them Scripture. That’s all you do.

They say, “I don’t believe in divine healing. God will heal people if He wants to. I don’t believe in that kind of stuff.”

“All right,” I say, “then you don’t believe the Bible.”
“I don’t believe in speaking in tongues,” someone says.
“Well, you don’t believe the Bible.”
“I don’t believe in casting out devils.”
You don’t believe the Bible then. Can you read sister?”
“Brother, I can read, but we don’t do that where I go to church.”
I usually say, “What in the world does your church have to do with the throne of God? We have no right to do anything except what the Bible says. God’s got churches on the earth that He raised up. Unless God builds a house it is built in vain anyway.”

You’re known unto God as a tree. Do you want to bear fruit for God? I’m going to tell you how to bear fruit for God.
If you want to bear fruit in this life, receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Let Jesus baptize you in the Holy Ghost. Let Him do it now and speak with other tongues. Learn how to pray in the spirit. Learn how to pray in the spirit (that means other tongues). That's what Paul said, "I thank my God I speak with tongues more than ye all" (1 Corinthians 14:18).

Now don’t you let those unbelievers come around and say, “Yeah, but Paul also said it’s better to speak five words in your own language. than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.”

If they don’t teach you to believe it, this is what they do. They take a scripture out of its setting.
Now the Bible does say, “I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all: Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue,” (I Corinthians 14: 18-19).

Now that’s what the Bible says. The Bible says that. That’s right, the Bible says that. And that’s exactly what the Bible means. The Bible means that when the Bible says that.

But you have to read that scripture in its setting. Paul said it’s better to speak five words in a known language than it is to speak ten thousand words in an unknown tongue WHEN I’M TEACHING PEOPLE IN THE CHURCH. Is that right? When I’m teaching people in the church.

In fact, it’s better to say three words in a known language. You learn much more if I come up to you and say “Jesus loves you,” if I’m teaching you some evening than if I get behind the pulpit and speak 20 thousand words in an unknown tongue.

I can’t teach you anything by speaking in tongues. You’re not going to learn anything from me by speaking in tongues. How are you going to learn something? You have to understand what I’m saying, if you’re going to learn anything. So leave the scripture in, its setting — when you’re teaching.

Paul told the truth. Paul said, “I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all.” More than the whole church. All the revelations and power he got from God, don’t you think it pays to speak in tongues?

Oh, some don’t believe it. I just have to say to them, theologians and all, “Well poor Paul. Poor Paul. It’s so sad he didn’t get your doctrine. God only used him to write about 2/3’s of the New Testament, but just think, if he’d have been like you, he would have fooled around and had at least 150 in Sunday School after five years. It’s a shame that Paul didn’t get your doctrine. Paul didn’t believe like that.”

Paul said, “I thank my God I speak with tongues more than ye all.” That means more than that whole church at Corinth. That’s out of the 14th chapter of Corinthians. In that letter to the church, that’s what he said. Now Paul wrote them that letter to get their thinking straightened out so they could bear fruit.

The reason that Jesus wants to baptize you with the Holy Ghost and have you speak and pray in other tongues in your own personal life is so you’ll bear fruit. That means you’ll have the power to go out and tell people that Jesus loves them.

You can tell people humbly, that Jesus loves them one minute, and turn right around the next minute and say, “In Jesus’ name, come out of him,” if you have to. And then you’re right back where you were again and you tell another person that Jesus loves them.

You see, you can’t get over religious. You’ve got to keep things under control. Just learn what the Bible says, obey it and you’ll never get in trouble with your ministry.

The Lord taught me a good lesson. He said, “Just make sure, Son, that you stick to the Word. Don’t ever worry about me. Don’t worry about me not doing what I said I’d do. If you stick to the Word, you will see signs follow. If you don’t stick to the Word, you won’t.” STICK TO THE WORD.

EACH DIFFERENT

You need to get baptized in the Holy Ghost and bear fruit. What happens to a person, known as a tree, if he doesn’t bear fruit? If he doesn’t bear good fruit? What happens to him?

Now you may think just because you’re living kind of a half-way decent life, that you’ll get by with some things. But you won’t get by with them. I mean, not with God. You can get by with me with them, but you don’t have to give an account to me for anything. You don’t have to answer to me.

You’re an individual. God wants to mold you into what He wants you to be. God wants to mold you into the kind of person He wants you to be. He wants to use your mouth. He wants to use your lips. He wants to use your personality. He wants to use you.

God woke me up at 6 o’clock one Sunday morning. I was going to teach an adult class that day. He told me, “You tell them straight that I made Moses just exactly like I wanted Him. And I did through him what I wanted to do.

“And you tell them straight that I made Samson just exactly like I wanted him. I put strength and power in him because I wanted to.

“You tell them I made Billy Graham just like I wanted him. I made his lips the way I wanted them. I made his face the way I wanted it. I made his head the way I wanted it. I made his body the way I wanted it.

“You tell them straight that I have never made two eyes alike. I’ve never made two faces alike. I’ve never made two hands alike. I’ve never made two personalities alike. The job that I’ve got for them to do, they’d better do it, or it will never be done; because I haven’t made anybody else like them -- nobody.”

It’s up to you as an individual to find out what God wants you to do. Be in your place. Minister in your community. Do what you can for the kingdom of God, you. Nobody else is going to do it. They’ll do what God wants them to do, but they don’t have your face. They don’t have your lips. They don’t have your personality. They just flatly don’t have it and they never will have it.

God made your face like He wants it. There are a certain number of people out there that you could win. You can’t get everybody; but maybe a person you can’t win, I can win. Maybe a person I can’t win, you can win.

You see, you have to let God mold you. Be a tree that will bear good fruit.
THE TWO-EDGED SWORD
“And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees; therefore every tree (Every human being has the Bible at his feet, doesn’t he? The Bible is sharper than any two-edged sword. It’s sharp as an axe.) which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire (hewn down, that’s right!). I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear (If you will listen to John the Baptist, the man that God molded to pave the way for Jesus, you’ll understand that receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost is a separate experience from salvation): he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire” (Matthew 3:10-11).

John the Baptist even told the people when he was preaching the message of repentance, he said, “I’ll baptize you in water if you’ll repent; because you better repent. I’m warning you, you’d better repent because the kingdom of heaven is at hand. You’d better repent of your sins and I’ll baptize you in the river. I’m warning you.”

He was a warning man, sent from the throne of God to pave the way for Jesus. So John baptized Jesus in the river Jordan.

And then, in chapter 4 of Matthew, it tells how Jesus went into the wilderness and fasted 40 days and 40 nights.
“Then was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:14).

Well, is the Bible the Word of God? Does it proceed out of the mouth of God?
All right. Then let’s turn to the 2nd chapter “ of Acts and find out what some of those words that came out of the mouth of God are.

A DIVINE PERSONALITY
When Jesus lived His life on the earth, went into His ministry under the power of God that God gave Him, died and rose again, and prepared to go back to heaven, He told His disciples, “I will pray that the Father will send you another comforter.”

So He prayed and asked God to send the human race another comforter.
God decided to send the Holy Ghost to the earth. That’s the other party from the throne of God. He thinks just like God thinks. He thinks just like Jesus thinks. He is a divine personality that’s sent from the throne of God to live in your belly. (If He’s not in there, you better get Him in there, now.)

And the more you get Him in there, and the fuller you get of Him, the sweeter you’ll get, the more successful you’ll get and the stronger your body will stay. Why? Because He thinks like God thinks. He has His personality.

Did you ever notice when He’s manifesting Himself to you, isn’t He sweet? Did you ever notice how sweet and precious the Holy Ghost actually is?

Can you imagine God loving you that much?
And you know how you look at things when He’s manifesting Himself to you, inside you? Why, He can manifest Himself to the point that you have such deep love, that He loves you so much, that you’ll just kiss and hug anybody that’s around. Why? Because you love everything.

Oh! it’s so sweet! The love of God passes all understanding. And you get like that. And then you make a good EVERYTHING. You get your thinking straightened out. And you just get so sweet and precious that people just can’t understand it. That’s the way God wants the human race.

WHEN HE CAME
In His first appearance for the human race, in Acts 2, the Holy Ghost only appeared to the 120 that had been praying. (And if you don't pray, He won’t ever appear to you.)

You might say, “Why didn’t He appear to those people outside? There were thousands and thousands and thousands of people present there from every nation in the world. Why didn’t he appear to them?”

Because they hadn’t been praying.
You’ve got to pay the price to get God's blessings. The 120 of them had been praying ten days and ten nights without eating, evidently. And the Holy Ghost appeared to them and began to sound as a mighty rushing wind coming in on them.

“And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:4).

You mean the Holy Ghost did something to the 120 that He won’t do to you? No. There’s no truth in that. God doesn’t have any pets any place. Jesus said that what He would do for one person, He would do for anybody. It doesn’t make any difference what color they are or what size they are or where they come from or how much money they have. God doesn’t care.

If all the thousands of people on the outside had been praying ten days, the Ho1y Ghost would have come on every one of them, every one of them.

IT'S BY FAITH
I just want to briefly explain to you that you can receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost without the supernatural manifestation -- immediately.

I couldn’t receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost. I tried to receive, but I couldn’t receive. I kept waiting. I made up my mind that I wasn’t going to confess anything until some supernatural power came on me and made me talk. For over a year, it never did come.

I began to think maybe there was something wrong with me. Everybody else was receiving.
I said, “Lord, I know that the Spirit of the Lord is in me. I mean, I know that I know that I’ve been born again. I know if I’d die today, I’d go to heaven. But Lord, I want to receive this power so I won’t be ashamed to cast out devils and pray for the sick and pass out tracks and go pray for my neighbors. I won’t be ashamed. I can walk in there and tell them the truth in love and in power and watch You do it.

“Lord,” I said, “I need more power and I sense it in my spirit. And in my mind I know that I need more power because I’ve been trying to figure out things in my head too much.

But I couldn’t receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost because I was waiting for some supernatural power to take my tongue over and make me talk, And it never did it.

So I began to study the Bible on the subject of faith. When I studied through the Bible on the subject of faith, I found out in Hebrews 11:1 that God's definition of faith is, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

In other words, if I get the substance, I've got to believe that I've received NOW, because NOW faith is.
Hebrews says, "Now faith is the substance . . . " The substance means what I'm asking for. I'm asking for the baptism of the Holy Spirit and speaking with other tongues. So I'm going to have to believe that I've got it when I don't see it.

The book of Acts the 2nd chapter says that my part is to speak and the Holy Spirit's part is to give me the utterance. The Spirit gave the utterance and they did the speaking.

So my part is to speak and I've got to believe that I've got it before I get it, according to Hebrews' definition of faith.

Then I came on down to Mark 11:23-2 which was my foundation scripture or believing this.
Jesus said, “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith."

In other words, does that mean I can say that I believe that I receive the baptism in the Holy Ghost and that’s what I’ll get?

Jesus said, “Therefore I say unto you, What things (That’s plural. That means anything you’re asking for) soever ye desire (I was already saved. I didn’t have to have the baptism of the Holy Ghost, but I picked this up where it says DESIRE. I desired to have the baptism of the Holy Ghost so I could receive more power), when ye pray (not minutes after you pray. When you pray), believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them, " Mark 11:24).

I had sense enough to know that Jesus doesn't tell lies. He said when I pray for something, believe when I pray that I receive, and I will have them.

I said, "Jesus, I can receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost then if I cooperate with the scriptures. If I do my part, Acts chapter 2 says they began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave the utterance. The Holy Spirit's part is to give me the utterance and my part is to begin to speak.

Hebrews says "Now faith is the substance . . . . ." The substance of my prayer is the baptism of the Holy ghost because that's what I'm asking for. I've got to believe that I’ve got it before I see it. Faith is the answer I see when I pray.

Mark 11:23 says I can have what ever I say if I doubt not.
So if I obey the book of Acts and the book of Hebrews, then Mark 11:24 says What things soever I desire when I pray believe that I receive them, and I shall have them.

You know what I did?
I had studied the Bible arid saw that it was true and so I just went down front one night and bowed down. I said, “You said in the Bible you have not because you ask not. So I’m asking you tonight, Jesus, to baptize me in the Holy Ghost.”

I had to put some action to my faith. The book of Acts says that it’s my responsibility to do the speaking. I just tried to speak out. I spoke some little sounds out. Something, but not like words. I never did feel anything.

On the basis of the Scripture, what it taught, I got up and said, “Thank you, Jesus, for baptizing me in the Holy Ghost.”

I didn’t feel anything. I didn’t base it on feelings. If I’d based it on feelings then I’d have had to wait for the supernatural language to come unto me. But I wasn't basing my believing on feeling. I was basing it on the Word of God.

I also followed the instructions that Jesus gave in Mark 11:23 because I was saying it with my mouth. "Thank you Jesus for baptizing me in the Holy Ghost."

I didn't even get to the car until the devil said to me, "Come on now, you didn't get baptized in the Holy Ghost because you didn't have any supernatural language come unto you tonight. Stop saying that."

I said, "Thank you Jesus for baptizing me in the Holy Ghost."
He said, "You didn't receive, you're lying about it. You're a Christian, you're not supposed to lie. Stop saying that."
I just turned a deaf ear to him. I said, "According to Mark 11:23 I can have whatever I say. According to Mark 11:24 if I believe I have it when I pray, I will get it. I got it now Satan, and I believe I receive what I ask for right then."

I kept walking around for a month in my office, in my house, riding around in my car, every place during the day I might say it even thirty times, “Thank you Jesus for baptizing me in the Holy Ghost. Oh it was so terrible for all that year that I was seeking for the Holy Ghost and never could receive. But now that I received the baptism in the Holy Ghost, it feels so good. Glory be to God for evermore because my believing is based on the Word.”

I didn’t have any supernatural language come to me. I did that for about a month. I hadn’t felt a thing. But I’ll tell you that the manifestations of God for you and your life and your family will be manifested the same all the time -- by faith, by your confession of the scriptures. Are you willing to make the scriptures the foundation of your believing? There is no such thing as God failing you if you do it. If you don’t do it, you can fail.

HERE IT COMES

One night God told me to go to Chattanooga to a meeting. I was sitting there in the meeting and the preacher preached (I didn’t know him), he just preached, and then gave an invitation for the sick to come and be prayed for.

How did God manifest Himself to you?
Okay, I’m going to explain it to you.
I was just sitting there and all of a sudden my body began to turn warm. I mean from my ears, my fingers, my arms and my legs and my hips and my back and my belly, every part of my body as far as I can remember began to turn real warm and began to tickle. It felt like little men in my bones brushing all over me. it felt like little men under my skin brushing me with little soft brushes, tickling me, thousands of them all over my body.

The devil said to me, “That’s a heart attack.”
1 never had felt anything like that before in my life. I’d been blessed of God before but this was something supernatural.

I was just sitting there minding my own business and my body began to turn from hot to warm to hot and it got tickling stronger and stronger. I got to the point with my body that I couldn’t hardly stand it.

I said to myself, “Devil, this isn’t a heart attack. This feels too good. You’re crazy. This is not a heart attack. I don’t know what it is though.”

I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t know what it was. I’d never heard of this before. I felt like it was God, but I didn’t know for sure, but it felt so good in my body.

I said to myself, “I’ll get out of here and walk to my car. But when I get out on the sidewalk and people are walking back and forth this will leave me. I better get out of here.”

I’d never felt anything like this before. So I got out and walked to my car, but it didn’t leave me.
I opened the door, got in the car, started driving up the main Street of Chattanooga to the bypass going toward Atlanta and Knoxville. All the time I was going, I just praised the Lord. And it just tickled me all up and down the bypass.

I said, “Oh God, Oh God, what is this Lord?”
I didn’t know it was the manifestation of my faith, at that particular time. I didn’t know for sure.
When I came to the bypass where I turned off, down deep in my belly began to turn real hot. And slowly, just slowly, began to move forward and up, just flowing. When it did, it filled my whole body. I thought my toes were going to jump out of my feet. I thought the bones in my fingers were going to jump out of my hands.

I didn’t know what was going to happen. I thought, Lord, are you coming? Is this it?
I thought something about stopping the car. I knew my body couldn’t stand this for very long.
It came up into my throat. It felt so good. I opened up my mouth and let the sound come out of my voice box and turned my tongue loose. HERE IT COMES! Glory to God for evermore. The supernatural language began to come out of my innermost being. I began to speak in tongues!

Talk about beautiful! I’d never had manifestation from God in all my thought it was beautiful to get saved, and it was, but this.

ARE YOU READY?

Can I say it boldly to you without offending you, “Are you ready to speak in tongues?”
Now you may be saying, “But Brother Norvel, I have to receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost first before I speak in tongues.”

No. The Holy Spirit’s only responsibility to you or anybody else is to give you the utterance like He did on the day of Pentecost. He came to give the utterance. You just have to be filled. You’ll be filled. They were all filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them the utterance.

The Holy Spirit gives you the utterance, the Bible says, and you do the speaking.
What do I speak?
Just speak whatever the Holy Ghost gives you. Just speak out what He gives you. By faith, just speak it out. Sounds or syllables or words that aren’t English, speak them out.

Are you ready now? I want you to base your believing on the scriptures that I’ve given
you.

RECEIVE BY FAITH.

do you belive so much that you can walk on water as peter did for a short time? can you go into an insane asylum and make the people better ?i think it is wrong for one to get jealous if they don't get what they want from god,like i said god knows us better than we do ourselves and gives us the gifts he wants to ,are we so great that we can dictate to god (i don't think so )do you think one denomination is better than another?because if you do i see wrong already which means alot of growing in christ is needed, i myself am a presbteryn ,but the church of god is people from all denominations, all walks of life ,also i would like to heal people ,but i'm not able to does that mean i'm not a good christian?if god has brought you to this site ,than your growing already ,but gods timetable is not our timetable,do people in your church drink great amounts of poison and still live?do they speak tongues to show off so people think they are holy ,they sound like they want to be the pharrisees and stand on a pedestal above everyone else

Well Guys i dont know, i still dont understand the believing and recieving teqneque. Is there a brain surgon in the room?

I will let you guys know when i get some where in my praying. But to tell you the truth i was baptised or you could say i was (DUNKED) some people get held under water for longer than expected lol poor people and they come out looking like this " " and then a pastor goes up and says FIRST TIME EXPERIENCE IS IT, and the person who was dunked looks like this ( ) and says "YEAH".

I still believe everything about the bible but i lack a bit of common sense espeacially in the Prophetic and tounge wagging department. I just dont get it, i wish it was as easy as saying "YOU WANNA IT, HERE IT IS COME AND GET IT". The Only thing i have a problem is finding the bag with Gods gifts in it in heaven. Surly God has then stashed away somewhere. Its like i am in Gods room looking through treasure chests and under papers (though God is not this untidiy) to try and find the gifts. Sometimes i wonder with people and think ( WHICH TREASURE CHEST HAS THE GIFTS IN IT?" "TELL ME NOW!" lol. Well thats how i feel.

Sad, but true

Most of the time when i pray my faith is like 2% out of 100%. When i pray im like this " ( ) What does God expect me to pray?"

Some times my faith in God can be a pain and i end up lookinf like this ( )

Sometimes Satan ( ) gets in my mind and makes me doubt what i ask he then looks like this, ( ) then i rebuke him and he looks like this ( ). I try to remeber the sword to hit him with it .
