I prayed that the Lord would help me find the right verse or verses.
This is what I found.
Psalm 19:7
The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
Psalm 119:130
The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
and there is this
Matthew 11:25
At that time Jesus answered and said, "I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes."
The truth is that the ways of the Lord are not simple, his ways are higher than our ways, and we cannot understand them in ourselves.
The wise of this world cannot touch the wisdom of the Lord, this includes the truth of His word.
But, the Lord is able to explain his wisdom simply, so that the simple may understand it, and it is His good pleasure to do so. Otherwise, the simple would not be able understand, even if it were explained.
He chooses to give wisdom to the simple to shame those who are wise in the world, and to testify of Himself, so that no flesh should glory. When He does this, it is simply done, and easily understood by those who are willing to receive wisdom from Him.
If you need a scripture that speaks of the necessity of a relationship with Jesus Christ in addition to having or knowing His word, there is this:
John 5:39-40
"Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life."
There are many that have and search the scriptures and think they have eternal life in them, but do not come to Jesus so that they might truly have it.
It's easier to have a relationship with a book or a set of principles, but that is not real Christianity because real Christianity is not a correspondence course.
Real Christianity is to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, just as the disciples that walked with Him in the flesh, and our master is not dead, but alive, and well able and willing to teach those who come to Him, simply, directly, and to the point.
I hope that helps.
