The Lord's recommendations on how to combat lukewarm...
Revelations 3:18
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
The first is a) gold tried in the fire
- This speaks of using our precious faith to overcome the world
- 1PET 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
- The process of overcoming is what the scripture calls 'trial'. To overcome means to live by faith and not to shrink backward...
Hebrews 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
The second is b) white raiment
- which also speaks of overcoming the world through faith..
-REV 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
The third c) is the anointing of the eyes with eyesalve
- this speaks of the eyes of our understanding, or the eyes of our heart
- the eyesalve is the spirit of Revelation and Wisdom from the Lord..
-Eph 1:17-18
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
- we need to have more knowledge of Jesus, and asks The Father to grant unto us the spirit of Wisdom and Revelation to enable us to see..
If we do not learn how to overcome by faith, then we will become lukewarm, tossed about by everything that we see and hear in this world.. life can become a miserable experience.
The good news is Jesus doesn't wants us to live in such a way, but that we overcome by faith with our eyes fixed on Him.
His rebuke and recommendations are really for our benefit, and not to condemn at all. We are not called to lose but rather to win and stand up in faith.
