What encourages persistent sinful habits?

Scripture reveals that the Law put sin into 'motion' in our body.

Romans 7:5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

Sinful habits, or addictions, are referred here as 'motions of sins'. In this verse it plainly reveals that the Law, the 10 commandments, WORK in our body (members). This is why it is impossible to fight sinful addiction using the Law. Instead, the more of the Law, the greater the sin grows. Because the LAW STRENGTHENS SIN.

1 Corinthians 15:56The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

ONLY Grace can break the power of sinful habits.

Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

We must remember that Jesus is the Mediator of the New Covenant only. Moses was only the Mediator of the Old Covenant. If we believed in Jesus as our Lord, then it is only right to relate to God through the New Covenant.

If the power of Christ has no effect in our life (to break sinful habits, and releasing blessings), then it only shows that we are law-minded. Law-mindedness makes Christ OF NO EFFECT in our life...

Galatians 5:4 Christ is become OF NO EFFECT unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

The covenant of Grace which was sealed by the blood of Jesus, speaks of better things than Abel's blood. Jesus's blood speaks of redemption while the blood of Abel cries out for judgment.

Hebrews 12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things that that of Abel.

It is time that we learn the better things that the blood of Jesus speaks, and discover the power of redemption that can break sin's dominion from our life.

This is interesting. Romans 4:13-15 also speaks of this. In fact all of Romans chapter four seems to be relevant. But lately God is showing me something about Ezekiel 46:9. When we come in by faith, we actually finish our pilgrimage and go out through the law. And vice a versa. Those who come into this thing by the law, can only make it out by going through grace. And it plays out like this. "he that entereth in by the way of the north gate to worship shall go out by the way of the south gate; and he that entereth by the way of the south gate shall go forth by the way of the north gate; he shall not return by the way of the gate whereby he came in, but shall go forth over against it." This is all spiritual and pertains to the two pillars or bodies of believers. Doesn't it make sense? This is also when the two sticks of Ezekiel 37:16 come together. Ephraim who dwelt in the north, and Judah who dwelt in the south. 2 Chronicles 18:18 is a picture also of Revelation 11:4. 2 Chronicles says "I saw the Lord sitting upon His throne, and all the host of heaven standing on His right hand and on His left." Yashua binds both these groups that pass through each other. As much as God has shown me, I must become sinless! And if it is by grace then i can stand under the law through this one Jesus who joins us with His outstetched arms. And at the same time, we also stand in like manner at this point to join the lost into Christ. And that is the house of Ephraim who have gone astray and the house of Judah who are backsliden. Your post has touched off something in my spirit that has been stirring, thank you!

Yes, Romans 4 is very important... It seems you have stirred my curiosity- i might make a study of Ezekiel 46... How you described it really caught something in my heart.

God bless..
